Woodside PESA WA Award Program 2017

he Western Australian branch of the Petroleum Exploration Society of Australia (PESA WA) in association with Woodside Energy Ltd is offering awards to eligible students currently studying a petroleum exploration related discipline. The aim of the program is to promote and encourage petroleum related research and education in Western Australia. In 2017, AUD$6,000 of awards will be available to be distributed to distinguished students who are currently under taking full time study at a Western Australian university.

These awards are open to:

Third Year and Honours undergraduate students

Masters by research and/or coursework post-graduate levels.


The PESA WA Award Program is open to students who, at the application deadline, are:

  1. Enrolled as a third year or higher undergraduate or post-graduate student in a petroleum exploration related† science program at a Western Australia tertiary institution;
  2. A current financial member of PESA.

†This includes geology, geophysics and/or a geoscience major.

PESA Membership

Students wishing to be considered for a PESA WA Award for the current year need to be approved PESA members at the time awards are considered. Student membership is $27.50/year and includes free access to the PESA library and subsidised attendance at technical lunches and short courses. Registration is available online at

Applications should be received by the committee prior to the application deadline of 31st August 2017

Selection Procedure

Applications will be assessed by the PESA WA committee. Successful applicants will be notified and invited to a technical luncheon on 21st September 2017 to receive their award. Honours and MSc candidates are requested to provide an article about their current research for the PESA News magazine (see below). The article of highest merit will be published in PESA News.

–          a completed Application Form;

–          a certified copy of their Tertiary Academic Record;

–          Honours and MSc Candidates should include a short article (<2 pages) about their research project, which is suitable for publication in the PESA news magazine.
