Guest Speaker: Kevin Hill & Dave Moreton

Kevin Hill is a structural and petroleum geologist with over 30 years’ experience, who provides expert structural consulting to the resources industry, and offers beginners to advanced industry training courses. He has worked on many mountain belts and sedimentary basins around the world with BP, the University of Melbourne and Oil Search, where he focussed on the PNG Highlands. He is currently an Honorary Associate Professor at the University of Melbourne carrying out research with the Basin Genesis Hub.

David Moreton graduated in 1981 from Monash University, Melbourne with an MSc in marine manganese deposits and immediately went to work in the oil industry for Esso Australia.  A variety of assignments within Esso Australia, Esso Norge and Delhi lead to a specialization in development geology.  He left ExxonMobil in 2005 and spent the next 10 years consulting to Oilsearch primarily on their PNG assets.   David Moreton retired in 2015.  He has had a life-long interest in archaeology and ancient history.

This presentation will show a touristic view of some of the geologic structures of western Turkey and discuss how geology has been a major control on human development of the area and on civilisation in general. The serious part will briefly show the development of grabens, metamorphic core complexes and some recent wells, and then some tourist shots to welcome the festive season.
