Guest Speaker: Dr Basim Faraj

Dr Basim Faraj is an unconventional gas specialist with expertise in shale gas and coalbed methane exploration. He has worked extensively on North American and Australian shales, including the Marcellus, Montney, Muskwa, Duvernay, Eagle Ford, and Haynesville shales, and the Cooper, Perth, Beetaloo and Canning basins. Dr Faraj received his PhD from the Centre for Microscopy and Microanalysis, Earth Sciences Department, at the University of Queensland in 1996.

Dr Faraj has extensive expertise in shale gas and coalbed methane projects, and has worked as a consultant on shale gas, coalbed methane, hydrogen generation, and deep coal for several energy companies in Canada and Australia. He has worked on unconventional projects all around the world, including in Turkey, Poland, Myanmar, Botswana, Argentina, and Jordan among others.

Currently he is a Director of Faraj Consultants and an Adjunct Professor at the Science and Engineering Faculty and the Institute for Future Environments, Queensland University of Technology (QUT), Brisbane. He is also the Domain Expert on shale gas for ONGC (India National Oil Company) and consults regularly on international shale gas projects.

Cancellations after the 1st May (including no-shows) will incur the full course cost. Exceptional circumstances may be considered by the PESA ACT Committee.
