Guest Speaker: Mr Justyn Wood

Justyn became interested in securing the future of helium after an outstanding 25-year record of value creation in the E&P sector.
His career includes technical and management roles at super-majors Chevron and Repsol and juniors Hardman Resources and Jacka Resources.  Justyn has explored for oil and gas all over the world and is recognised as having played leading roles in unlocking significant value particularly in the (then) frontier basins of the East African Rift and the Guiana basins of NE South America.
Through his work, he has estimated to have directly and indirectly contributed circa US$20 billion to the global upstream oil and gas industry.
Justyn holds a B.Sc App (Geophysics) from University of Queensland, a Grad Cert (App Fin & Inv) from Securities Institute of Australia and has completed director training at AICD
Justyn is a member of SEG, AAPG and PESA

This month, PESA QLD welcomes Mr Justyn Wood to give a detailed insight into his latest venture with a technical talk entitled “Helium Exploration in the East African Rift.”  PESA QLD will also be hosting the Annual General Meeting (AGM) for 2019 immediately before Justyn’s presentation.

The Technical Lunch will be held at the Brisbane Hilton Hotel, in the “Victoria’s Room” with access from the Hilton Main Foyer on level 6.
For detailed directions, see explanation below.

Presentation Abstract:

Global consumption of helium is miniscule compared to natural gas, but a secure helium supply is essential for many of our modern technologies such as MRIs, smartphones, computers, global data centres, aerospace, military weaponry, specialist welding, deep sea diving and low-temperature research facilities such as the Large Hadron Collider. Fun fact – only about 4% of the global supply goes into party balloons and squeaky voices.

After nearly 100 years of stable helium supply from a small number of US gas fields, the global helium supply chain is transitioning through a significant and potentially disruptive change of guard. Beginning 2021, Qatar and particularly Russia will emerge as the dominant suppliers for the balance of this century.

For global helium supply security and flexibility, an alternative, global-scale and ideally primary-product helium source is required. The East African Rift basins of Tanzania currently represent the best-known opportunity globally with the geological potential to meet this challenge. Noble Helium has secured over 6,000km2 of potentially the most prospective helium acreage on the planet.

The EAR basins were deemed unprospective for oil and gas for nearly 100 years, due to their perceived leak potential. In 2006, we proved that to be incorrect and more than 6 billion barrels have been discovered since across multiple EAR basins. In a serendipitous collision of two unrelated histories, the exploration knowledge base developed since our game- changing discoveries in the Albertine Graben positions us well for maximum probability of success in proving global-scale, primary-product helium reserves in Tanzania and solving a looming issue in the global helium supply chain.

Noble Helium consists of an extraordinary global team of experts, all focussed on delivering success at this critical moment in time.

Important Note:
The Annual General Meeting (AGM) for the PESA QLD Branch will be hosted prior to the commencement of the Technical Lunch.
