Minerals and Petroleum (M&P) is a division of the Department of Primary Industries. It is responsible for the administration of minerals, quarry and petroleum legislation including transmission pipelines. The division is also responsible for promoting minerals and petroleum exploration and extraction activities.

Also responsible for overviewing the petroleum acreage release & marketing, data management and reservoir engineering activities.

Responsible for establishment of technical aspects of licence conditions and approvals of drilling programs, pipelines, health, safety and environment monitoring. Also responsible for granting renewal and administration of licences and fees.

The Energy Geoscience Group is responsible for geoscience interpretation, data provision, data enhancement and geotechnical support. It provides geoscientifc expertise on issues related to petroleum, coal-seam gas, geosequestration and geothermal energy.

Petroleum Resources monitors the level of reserves within Victoria and provides geological/technical advice with respect to drilling programs and tenement applications.
