Timor Sea Website Provides Lowdown On Darwin Symposium http://www.dme.nt.gov.au/ntgs/timorseasymposium/home.html The Timor Sea Symposium website has a comprehensive range of information about the event including a list of speakers, a brief summary of the topic they will talk on, and travel and accommodation advice. The symposium, being held on June 19th and 20th, is the first of its kind to address specifically the petroleum geology of the Timor Sea area and will provide a forum for industry, government and academia to discuss the petroleum geoscience and hydrocarbon potential of the region. The home page has an index featuring links to: programme and papers, a downloadable symposium brochure, venue, travel and accommodation, sponsorship details, speakers, dates and links, contacts and organisers, excursion details and a registration form. The programme and papers page has a session-by-session list of speakers and topics as well as a social and recreational programme with a link to the NT Tourist Commission. There are also contact details for further information on papers or inquiries. There is an enlargeable map detailing major projects in the Timor Sea area including producing oil fields, shut-down oil fields, discovered undeveloped oilfields, discovered undeveloped gasfields and the proposed Bayu Undan gas pipeline. The brochure link downloads a pdf file, whereas the registration and venue link provides details about Darwin, with more links to an attendance registration form and a link to the 4.5 star Carlton Hotel, which is the venue for the symposium. The travel and accommodation page provides a link to a travel information and registration form and also to a range of Darwin hotels. The conference is being held during a busy month in Darwin and accommodation is at a premium, so if you are going to the symposium, book early. All hotels linked to this page are within five minutes walking distance to the Carlton Hotel. The sponsorship page details corporate sponsors whereas the speakers page has an overview of a geoscience theme for the conference. Individual speakers were not listed when PESA News previewed the site early in April, but more details should emerge as the conference draws nearer. The
dates page provides cutoff dates for submission of papers. There is a
list of links to Northern Territory Government sites providing useful
overviews of Timor Sea oil and gas projects and fact sheets. The symposium is being organised by the the Northern Territory Department of Business, Industry and Resource Development (DBIRD), with support from Geoscience Australia and PESA (WA branch). The web sites of these organisations are linked to the home page. |
