Sand Control And Management Forum
20th-21st August 2003

Oil & Gas IQ's 6th international Sand forum will be held on August 20th -21st in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia and will examine all the issues in both downhole sand control and topsides sand management.

Field studies from across South East Asia, Australia and further a field will be presented including;
• The results of BHP Billiton's first expandable sand screen implementation in their remote Minerva Gas wells;
• Woodside Petroleum's first sand control application in their Echo-Yodel field, a high rate big bore gas well;
• ChevronTexaco's application of the 'sand management' concept in their Duri and Boscan fields;
• Petronas Carigali's use of enhanced gravel-pack completions to revitalise their mature sand-producing Durlang field;
• How TotalFinaElf are dealing with sand production to reduce integrity risks and increase production rates in their assets;
• How Norsk Hydro ASA are managing sand risk in a mature Norwegian oil field and their experience of installing over 400 km
of stand alone screens in mono-bore, bilateral and trilateral wells;
• The history of sand production in PTTEP's Bongkot field, their remedial action to date and future plans; and
• The latest research on sand bridging theory from the Indian Institute of Science

Plus hear the latest technological advances from these leading experts: Weatherford, Reslink, Corrocean, Corex, Helix RDS Ltd and Owen.

For many years the answer to sand has been to control it at all costs, even at the expense of production rates. But with an increasing drive to minimise well costs whilst increasing production right now it's vital you know all the options before you decide on a course of action.

PESA QLD Sydney Basin Field Trip

In late June, The PESA Queensland and Northern Territory Branch is running a five day field workshop on the Early Permian successions in the southern Sydney Basin. The workshop is entitled 'New methods & developments in high-resolution sequence stratigraphy & reservoir characterisation of estuarine, shallow marine and deltaic deposits'. The course will focus on new methods in sequence stratigraphic analysis such as the integration of ichnology and ichnofacies analysis with sedimentology and standard facies analysis.

The southern Sydney Basin provides superb 3D exposures of a variety of estuarine, shallow marine & deltaic facies, comparable in quality to the widely known geological localities in Utah and Colorado. The course will encompass tutorial sessions integrated with practical experience in both modern environments and on a number of the spectacular 3D coastal exposures between Batemans Bay and Ulladulla on the picturesque south coast of New South Wales.

Course conveners are Drs Kerrie Bann (Ichnofacies Pty Ltd), Christopher Fielding (University of Nebraska, USA) and Stuart Tye (Origin Energy) who between them have extensive research experience with these exposures and with coastal and marine successions worldwide.

The course will depart from Sydney airport on June 22nd and return on June 28th. Although the closing date for registration was May, late registration may still be possible. Contact Stuart Tye at stuart.tye@upstream.origin

WANTED: Presenters For Annual FESWA Seminar

The Formation Evaluation Society of Western Australia (FESWA) is looking for presenters to speak at its annual October seminar promotion.

The seminar, dubbed 'Core to Log Integration', will be held on October 14th at the Novotel Langley Hotel in Perth.

FESWA suggested some of the topics that presenters could possibly look at include:
• Log derived permeability/adjusting permeability database using core data
• Permeability from NMR/wireline formation tests
• Permeability determination from sidewall cores and cuttings
• NMR from core to logs not just for permeability prediction
• Predicting core defined facies from logs

The above topics are only guidelines and presenters should feel free to explore other topics of interest.

Those interested in participating at the seminar should submit their presentation's title to Nacera.Chafai@halliburton.com, urgently.

The deadline for abstracts is July 15th, and August 15th is the deadline for final presentations.

For more information, please contact FESWA at www.feswa.org

ASEG, In Collaboration With PESA NSW 17th International Conference And Exhibition
August 15th-19th 2004, Sydney Convention Centre

Integrated Exploration In A Changing World
The 2004 Conference Organising Committee is inviting members to attend the 17th Annual ASEG Conference and Exhibition to be held at the Sydney Convention Centre, Darling Harbour, from August 15th-19th 2004. The conference is being jointly organised by the ASEG and PESA NSW branch and is one of Australia's most significant resource events.

The conference theme, 'Integrated Exploration in a Changing World', will address the integrated use of geophysical, geological and engineering technologies at a time when the petroleum and minerals industries are undergoing change both domestically and globally.

Sydney was the venue for the 'Best Ever' 2000 Olympic and Paralympic Games and it will be the host city for the forthcoming Rugby World Cup. Regarded as one of the world's most beautiful cities, Sydney is vibrant and offers a wide variety of activities for conference participants and their partners. You'll really enjoy your time in Sydney.

For further information (as it becomes available) visit the Sydney 2004 website, that way you'll be sure to receive early notification of the call for papers and registration information.

PESA (Qld Branch) SYMPOSIUM
September 17th 2003, Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre

The Organising Committee for the PESA (Qld) Petroleum Symposium will be presenting a program with a strong technical focus, mirroring the very successful program acclaimed last year. In addition, up to date reviews on current exploration and development activity within Queensland and the Northern Territory are planned.

Last year more than 100 delegates from all states of Australia, as well as a number from overseas, attended continuing the strong role this Symposium plays in keeping people informed and encouraging contact between the various players in the industry.

Further details and registration forms will be available in later editions of PESA News.
