The PESA ACT Branch held its first ever golf
event in November 2004 at the picturesque Federal Golf Course in
Canberra.
PESA members were able to play at under half the normal price thanks
to a generous donation by the Australian Oilfields Golf Committee.
27 golfers braved the wet weather and kangaroos to compete in the
event. The ambrose format allowed golfers at all levels to enjoy
a social day on the golf course.
Following golf, a 'warming' barbeque dinner and presentation ceremony
was enjoyed by all at the 19th hole. The winning team of Joe Wipiiti,
John Cogan, Chris Nicholson and Nick Grunbaum finished with a net
score of 60, and each received a bottle of wine and bottle opener
provided by Acumen Alliance. Nearest to the pin winners each received
a coffee pack and plunger provided by Kaldi Coffee.
Notable performances were also made by two first time golfers:
Kila Bale, who finished in the second placed team, and Karen Earl,
who managed to hole five putts in a row from several metres out.
The ACT Branch would like to thank sponsors of the Australian Oilfields
Golf Committee (AWE, BassGas, BHP Billiton, Century Drilling, Duke
Energy, Essential Petroleum, Esso, Halliburton, Imperial Snubbing,
INPEX, KPMG, Mitsui, Oil Search, Oil Drilling & Exploration
Ltd, Petrel, Technical Careers & Contracts, Veritas, Wiltshire
Geological Services Pty Ltd, Worley, Woodside) for their generous
support in making the inaugural golf competition a big success.
We look forward to continuing the tradition at Federal Golf Course
in 2005, hopefully minus the rain!
