People And Organisations
Caught Doing Things Right
To all who provided or plan to provide support for the victims of
calamities - including the December tsunami and January fires- your
hearts and minds are well placed. Goodonya for doing the right things.
Tom Loutit (PESA ACT / FrOG TECH) and Stephen Wood (PESA NSW / Oil
Search) volunteered to be PESA's representatives at the Science
meets Parliament (SmP) 8-9 March 2005 event in Canberra. PESA is
part of the Federation of Australian Scientific and Technologic
Societies (FASTS) contingent at SmP. The red button issue shared
by all FASTS member organisations is to support high school and
university science education.
Hot topics from the
December 6th 2004 PESA Board meeting (Melbourne)
The 2005 PESA budget forecast was deemed sustainable (with dues
unchanged).
Both the ASEG-PESA Conference (August 2004 in Sydney) and the 2nd
Eastern Australasian Basins Symposium (September 2004, Adelaide)
were technically and financially successful events.
PESA now plans to finance its national education tours on a national
basis. Also, up to a $4,000 (PESA Federal funds) is set as a contingent
budget to reduce the risk of a Branch running a loss from Distinguished
Lecture and Workshop tours. This PESA Education Committee policy
aims to sustain delivery of well taught hot topics at attractive
prices.
Aims for high quality in budget are driving the timing for www.pesa.com.au
events and technical papers databases. These services will 'go live'
in 2005.

Quotes
My past two years as PESA's President have been a very satisfying.
All that has been achieved for PESA members reflects very well on
the magnificent collaborative voluntary efforts of PESA members
spread across Australia. I am truly grateful for the advice and
support provided by all the people who generously gave (and give)
of themselves by serving on PESA's Board and PESA's Branch, Education,
Publication, and Membership Committees. I am especially thankful
for the collaborative efforts of PESA's Executive VP (David Cliff
- PESA WA / Hardman), PESA's Executive Treasurer (Mike Hanzalik
- PESA SA / Santos), PESA's Executive Secretaries (Evelina Paraschivoiu
- PESA SA / PIRSA and Bronwyn Camac - PESA SA / ASP), PESA's immediate
Past President (John Carmody - PESA NSW / Apex Energy), PESA's Secretariat
(Rowley Butters - PESA WA / Consultant) and PESA's publisher (Brian
Wickins - PESA WA / RESolutions). I also welcome the incoming PESA
Federal Executive President, Treasurer and Secretary from PESA WA
and Federal Executive VP from PESA ACT. At the time of writing -
their names are hush-hush. All will be revealed (and commended)
at the PESA AGM in Perth on Sunday April 10th 2005. See you then.
