Queensland Gas Secures CSG

Queensland Gas Company has secured all necessary licences and leases for its Argyle and Berwyndale South gas fields after being granted the two pipeline and three petroleum leases. Berwyndale South was the company’s first dedicated CSG project in the Surat Basin, and Argyle the second. Gas produced from the Argyle field will be used to supply a contract with Incitec Pivot for 7.4 PJ/year from 2007 for 10 years.

Berwyndale South was also announced as the location for Queensland Gas Company’s initial gas compressor station, which will process gas from both fields and transport it to the company’s customers through a 14 km spur line linked into the Roma to Brisbane gas pipeline. Gas from Argyle will be transported to Berwyndale South through a 15 km gas pipeline.

The $50 million development at Berwyndale South was scheduled to start in July with the construction of a 50 person field camp, followed by civil works for the construction of the gas compressor in August. Queensland Gas Company will establish an integrated project team – which will comprise a core team of the company’s employees as well as specialist engineers and advisors – in Brisbane to coordinate the development. Managing Director Richard Cottee stated that Worley Parsons has been appointed to do the detailed engineering for the compressor gas station. GHD has been appointed to provide engineering work for the pipeline linking Berwyndale South to the Roma to Brisbane gas pipeline.
